Purpose of Clary Sage:
The plant itself has beautiful, heart-shaped leaves and magical, pale purple flowers.
Name Origin and Historical Uses:
Salvia derives from the Latin word “salvere” meaning “to be saved or healed.” This demonstrates how much the Romans thought of these plants. They believed that sage could bring immortality. It was also used to improve the quality of life. Clary Sage was used in the Middle Ages as an aphrodisiac. This may be related to the female wellness support we now know Clary Sage can offer.
In Medieval times, clary sage was also a well known tea in Britain before the importation of Chinese black tea.
Some also used it for its ability to offer spiritual clarity and for clear vision for the future.
